The praying person staying in his place after finishing the prayer Fatwa No: 121756
- Fatwa Date:11-5-2009
Is it sunnah for a person to sit put, not moving away at all from his point of prayer on termination of the Salaah?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
Some of the Muslim jurists held the opinion that it is recommended for the Muslim to stay in his place after he finishes his prayer to recite the mention of Allaah The Almighty. The Sunnah proved that it is recommended for the Muslim to remain in his place of prayer. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "The angels supplicate in favor of one of you so long as he remains in the place where he has performed prayer and does not break his ablution or leave. They (the angels) say: 'O Allaah! Forgive him, O Allaah! Have mercy on him.''' [Maalik, Ahmad, Al-Bukhari and Muslim] This does not mean that he should remain in his place and never leave.
