Many questions about organizing a wedding Fatwa No: 128661
- Fatwa Date:3-11-2009
Assalamu Alaikum,Dear Al-Sheikh, I am gonna marry on coming year with my future partner. I and my spouse like to do our nikah in true Islamic way. Even I am knowing the way, I am having some doubts on it. Please kindly clear my doubt on following topics. * Where should the nikah take place on? In boys's home or Girl's home?* Which day there should be Valeema?* Should girl come to boy's place on the nikah day? Or boy has to go to girl's place?* Is it allowed the boy to go to girl's home on nikah day and bring the girl to boy's home on Valeema day?Jazakahllah Hairan.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
First of all, we thank both of you for being keen on organizing your wedding according to the teachings of Islam.
However, we are not aware in the Sharee’ah of what proves that the marriage contract has to be concluded at a certain place. It can be held either in the boy’s house or in the girl’s house according to the agreement of both parties. Nonetheless, some scholars are of the view that it is desirable that it be held at the mosque because of its [mosque’s] sanctity.
Moreover, the scholars differed in opinion about the best time for organizing the Waleemah (marriage banquet), and we have discussed the matter in Fataawa 82622 and 85394.
Therefore, there is no hard or fast rule in this regard but it is better to organize the Waleemah after having consummated the marriage as Anas said that the Prophet consummated the marriage with a woman (one of his wives) and then he sent me to call people for food. [Al-Bukhari]
Moreover, there is nothing obligatory in regard to the bridegroom going to the house of the bride or vice-versa, both acts are permissible. The same thing applies to the bridegroom going to the house of the bride in order to take her to his house. Nonetheless, it is known that it is the bride who is usually taken to her husband [’s house]. It was reported that ‘Aa’ishah prepared a woman for a man from the Ansaar as his bride, and the Prophet, the Prophet said: “Did you not have any amusement (during the marriage ceremony), as the Ansaar like amusement?”, and another narration reads: “Why did you not send a maid with her to play the Duff (a tambourine-like instrument without bells) and sing?” [Al-Bukhari]
Allaah Knows best.
