Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

It is permissible for your daughter to call her aunt ‘my mother’ if this is out of respect. One Fatwa of the Permanent Committee of Islamic Research and Verdicts reads: “A person may call another person who is elder than him by saying ‘my father’ as a way of honouring him and being affectionate with him.”

If the father of your husband and his sister mistreat you, then they are wrong. Rather, good relationship should prevail between you as this is what Allaah wants from the people in general and especially between the in-laws in particular.

On the other hand, you may respond to the sister of your husband in the same manner she treats you if this does not involve a sin. However, if you are patient and forgive her, then this is better. Allaah Says (what means): {And if you punish [a criminal, O believers], punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed. But if you are patient — it is better for those who are patient.}[Quran 16:126] For more benefit on the excellence of tolerance and forgiveness, please refer to Fatwa 84351.

Finally, it should be noted that your husband should repel the harm of his family off you. He is also obliged to provide you with a separate accommodation if you want it. A wife has the right upon her husband to provide her with a separate accommodation as we clarified in Fatwa 84608.

Allaah Knows best.
