Supplications for Relief from Magic and Grief Fatwa No: 13277
- Fatwa Date:9-2-2012
How can I make Ruqyah (Quranic treatment) against magic? What are the invocations that drive grief, distress and hypochondria away?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
To make Ruqyah against magic, the evil eye, or any other thing, put your hand on your head or chest and recite Chapter Al-Faatihah, verse 255 from Chapter 2 (Al-Baqarah), Chapters Al-Ikhlaas, Al-Falaq, An-Naas [i.e. Quran 112, 113 and 114], and the last two verses of Chapter Al-Baqarah [i.e. verses 285 and 286].
Moreover, you should read the verses that render magic ineffective. These verses are: Chapter Al-Baqarah [Quran 2] verse 102, Chapter Al-A‘raaf [Quran 7] verses number 117-120, Chapter Yoonus [Quran 10] verses 80-82 and Chapter Taha [Quran 20] verse number 69.
Also, you need to recite the invocations that were reported to have been recited by the Prophet . For example, it was narrated on the authority of ‘Aa’ishah that the Prophet used to say: “Ath-hib al-baas rabb an-naas, ishfi anta ash-shaafi, laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uk. Shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqaman. (O Allah, drive the illness away, cure me; You are the Curer. There is no other cure except Yours - a cure that leaves no ailment behind)." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
These verses may be read over water or oil. Part of it should be used for Ghusl (ritual bathing), and the other part should be drunk. You may rub your body with the oil. You should repeat this until you are cured.
You must be sure in your heart that only Allah The Almighty can cure you and drive any harm away, and that this Ruqyah is just a cause and cannot benefit or harm you except with the permission of Allah Almighty. Do not place all your hopes on the Ruqyah, but instead on the power of Allah, The Almighty, in order to obtain the benefit of the Ruqyah.
Invoke Allah, The Almighty, sincerely, be obedient to Him, avoid sins, recite morning, evening and bedtime invocations regularly, and mention Allah, The Almighty, a lot. Hisn Al-Muslim min Athkaar Al-Kitaab wa's-Sunnah by Shaykh Sa‘eed Al-Qahtaani, may Allah preserve him, is a book which contains authentic Prophetic supplications which you could use.
We ask Allah The Almighty that you will do what has been advised and we pray that He will drive away any magic spell and your fear of magicians, Allah willing.
Regarding the treatment of hypochondria, please review Fatwa number 3086. Treating distress and grief lies in the supplication reported from the Prophet where he said:
"Allaahumma inni ‘abduka wa ibnu ‘abdika wa ibnu amatika; naasiyati biyadika; maadhin fiyya hukmuka; ‘adlun fiyya qadhaa’uka, as’aluka bikullis-min huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitaabika, aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw-ista’tharta bihi fi ‘ilmi al-ghaybi ‘indaka, an taj‘alal-Qur’aana al-‘Atheema rabee‘a qalbee, wa noora sadri, wa jalaa’a huzni, wa thahaaba hammi.” (O Allah! I am Your slave, the son of Your slave, the son of Your female slave. My forelock is in Your Hand; Your decision concerning me shall certainly come to pass; just is Your Judgment about me. I implore You with each Name of Yours, by which You named Yourself, or You taught to some of Your creatures, or You revealed in Your Book, or which You keep secret in the knowledge of the Unseen with You, to enliven my heart with the Quran and to render it the light of my chest, the remover of my distress and discomfort), except that Allah removes his distress and replaces his sadness with joy." Someone asked: "O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?" He said: "Yes, whoever hears them should learn them." [Ahmad, Al-Albaani classified it as Saheeh (Authentic)]
It was narrated on the authority of Anas that the Prophet used to say: “Allaahumma inni a‘oothu bika min al-hammi wal-hazani wal-‘ajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-jubni wa dhala’i ad-dayni wa ghalabati ar-rijaal (O Allah I seek refuge with You from distress and grief, from disability and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, and from the burdens of debt and coercion of men.)”
We ask Allah The Almighty by His names and attributes to drive your distress away and cure you from magic. He is the Almighty.
Allah knows best.
