Ruling on making Tasbeeh or Tahleel during the sermon of the Friday prayer Fatwa No: 15842
- Fatwa Date:15-1-2014
Is it permissible to make Tasbeeh or Tahleel during the sermon of the Friday prayer, knowing that some Khateebs (i.e. Imaam who gives the sermon) say Wahhido Allaah (i.e. Declare the Oneness of Allaah The Almighty) or the like?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Some scholars view that making Thikr (i.e. Remembrance of Allaah The Almighty) during the sermon of the Friday prayer is permissible whenever its causes exist. Some others view that it is permissible to do so even if there is no cause for it. However, it is better not to do so because silence when listening to the sermon is the basic rule.
Also, these Khateebs should be advised that what they are doing has nothing to do with the Sunnah for it is well known, according to the guidance of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and that of his Companions and those who followed them in goodness, that none of them used to make those kinds of commands when delivering the sermon. All goodness is in following the Sunnah of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, while all evil is in introducing new matters in religion.
Allaah Knows best.
