How to respond to Jinns living in your house
Fatwa No: 19231

Question

We learned that there are Jinns living with us in our house, and we have spoken with them. What should we do now?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

If it is true that there are Jinns living in this house, then we advise you to follow these guidelines:

1-    You should know that Allaah the Almighty did not give Jinns authority over righteous Muslims. Allaah the Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, over My [believing] servants there is for you no authority. And sufficient is your Lord as Disposer of affairs.} [Quran 17:65]

2-    Allaah the Almighty makes Jinns influence some people because of their sins and acts of disobedience. Allaah the Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, My servants— no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.} [Quran 15:42]

3-    Mentioning the Name of Allaah the Almighty is the best shield against Jinns and devils. In a Hadeeth on the authority of Jaabir the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered us to shut doors and mention the Name of Allaah (while shutting them) and informed us that the devil cannot open a closed door as long as the Name of Allaah was mentioned over it. [Al-Bukhari]

Thus, you should frequently mention the Name of Allaah the Almighty and read the Quran, particularly Chapter Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2), in your house. In a Hadeeth on the authority of Abu Hurayrah the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, told us that the devil does not remain in a house where Chapter Al-Baqarah has been read. [Muslim]

Since you speak with the Jinns, you should ask them by Allaah the Almighty to leave your house. If they are righteous they will do so.

We also warn you not to preoccupy yourself with obsessive doubts and thoughts about this matter, so you do not become psychologically disturbed.

Allaah Knows best.
