Driving Christian wife to church Fatwa No: 252493
- Fatwa Date:17-5-2014
I am a Christian who is about to get married to one muslim guy. I would like to ask if once we are married is he allowed to drop me to christian church. Thank You for your time
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
If a Muslim marries a Christian woman, he should not prevent her from practicing her religion and carrying out her devotional rituals, as underlined in Fatwa 90235. However, he should not help her do anything that he believes to be wrong because Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {… And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allaah; indeed, Allaah is severe in penalty.}[Quran 5:2]
Therefore, it is impermissible for him to drive her to the Church. A Christian or Jewish woman should know some facts if she chooses to marry a Muslim man, as highlighted in Fatwa 81979.
As Muslims, we believe that Prophet ‘Eesa (Jesus) is the Slave and Messenger of Allaah. We believe in him just as we believe in all the Prophets of Allaah. This has been proclaimed in the Quran; Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allaah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination."}[Quran 2:285]
However, we also believe that Islam has abrogated all the previous divine messages. Islam is the right religion by which Allaah, The Exalted, has revealed as the final divine message to mankind. Therefore, Allaah does not accept from people a religion other than Islam. In fact, there is an abundance of evidence proving that Islam is the right religion and we have highlighted it in Fataawa 88906, 88051 and 86091.
On the contrary, the present-day Christianity abounds in many myths and vanities and in addition there are many contradictions found in the various bibles as illustrated in Fataawa 8210, 10326 and 90449.
Allaah Knows best.
