Ahaadeeth about reward for raising a female child
Fatwa No: 272569

Question

My first child is female. As a girl's father I like to know the Hadidth about this?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The question is somehow ambiguous, and we do not know exactly what the questioner is asking about. If you mean the Hadeeth about the virtue and reward that the Muslim earns for raising a female child, then there are many Ahaadeeth in this regard:

The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “If anyone has a female child, and does not bury her alive, or disgrace her, or favor his other children (i.e. the males) over her, then Allaah will make him enter Paradise.” [Ahmad in Al-Musnad and Abu Daawood in his Sunan]

Also, Anas ibn Maalik narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “He who provides for two girls until they reach puberty, he and I would be like this on the Day of Resurrection," and he pressed his fingers together. [Muslim]

‘Uqbah ibn ‘Aamir narrated that he heard the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, saying: “Whoever has three daughters and is patient with them, provides them with food, drink, and clothes from his earnings, they will be a shield for him from the Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection.” [Ibn Maajah narrated it with a Saheeh (sound) chain of narrators]

Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Whoever has three daughters or three sisters or two daughters or two sisters and keeps good company with them and treats them well for fear of Allaah, then Paradise shall be his abode.” [At-Tirmithi]

In fact, being blessed with a daughter is a great grace from Allaah just like that of being blessed with a son. This is why the ‘Aqeeqah celebration (i.e. offering an animal sacrifice on the occasion of a child's birth) is prescribed in Islam when one is blessed with a child, a boy or a girl.

Allaah, The Exalted, emphasizes His grace bestowed upon His slaves by granting them female children, and He even mentioned females before males. Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males./Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren.} [Quran 24:49-50]

If the questioner is asking about something else, then please explain your inquiry in a non-ambiguous manner.

Allaah Knows best.
