Ruqyah must be recited in Arabic
Fatwa No: 27292

Question

What is the ruling of Islam on going to a Shaykh, who is specialized in curing people with the Quran, knowing that he uses some foreign words while talking in Arabic and that he continually recites the Quran throughout the session?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

There is no objection to going to a man who cures people with the Quran and the Prophetic supplications. However, if this man mixes non-Arabic words with the Quranic verses, this is a reason to suspect him. Scholars have stated that one of the conditions of the Sharee‘ah-approved Ruqyah (cure by means of Quran) is reciting it in Arabic.

Allaah Knows best.
