Visiting Hindu at home
Fatwa No: 318655

Question

I have a question regarding visiting Hindus. The Hindus have a saying which probably comes from one of their books. This saying equates guests with God (we seek refuge with Allah from this saying). So if a muslim knows this and goes to the house of a Hindu, then what is the ruling on him? Furthermore, I go to the house of two Hindu teachers for tuition. I do not think that I can be considered their guest, but I am afraid that I may be sinful. Is it alright if i go to their houses?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Hinduism is a pagan religion that has nothing to do with the heavenly revealed religions. We have already commented on Hinduism in fatwa 107094.

If a Muslim visits a Hindu in his home or school for a lawful purpose, then there is nothing wrong with this and he is not sinful because of their false belief. However, if a Hindu wants from the Muslim to do for him what is not permissible, such as bowing to him, then it is impermissible for the Muslim to approve of this or accept it from him.

Allaah knows best.
