Best time to say daily Thikr 100 times Fatwa No: 362701
- Fatwa Date:3-1-2018
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. Dear Shaykh, my question is regarding the daily Thikr (expressions of remembrance of Allah), such as saying "Laa Ilaaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Shareeka Lah, Lahul Mulk Wa Lahul Hamd Wa huwa 'ala Kulli Shay'in Qadeer" (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, Alone, without partners, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things Omnipotent) 100 times a day. My question is, if I do this Thikr in the morning 100 times after Fajr to get the reward, when is the soonest I can do it again for the next day? Is it after the Maghrib given that the Maghrib is when the new day starts? So, for example, if I do that Thikr 100 times after the Fajr, and then after the following Maghrib (several hours later after that Fajr) I again say it 100 times, will that count for the entire day till the next Maghrib so that I do not have to do it again the next morning after the Fajr? I do not have to wait 24 hours? May Allah reward you. Wassalaam.
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible to say the mentioned Thikr as much as possible during the night or during the day, and it is recommended to say it one hundred times a day [in 24 hours], as Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet said:
“Whoever says a hundred times in a day: La Ilaaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Shareeka Lah, Lahul Mulk Wa Lahul Hamd Wa huwa 'ala Kulli Shay'in Qadeer (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, Alone, without partners, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things Omnipotent), he will have a reward equivalent to that of emancipating ten slaves, a hundred good deeds will be recorded to his credit, a hundred of his sins will be wiped out from his record of bad deeds, and he will be safeguarded against the devil on that day till the evening; and no one will exceed him (in the reward that he attained), except someone who has recited these words more often than he did.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
It is recommended to say the above Thikr in the morning and in the evening, once or ten times, as the Prophet said: “Whoever says in the morning 'La Ilaaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Shareeka Lah, Lahul Mulk Wa Lahul Hamd Wa huwa 'ala Kulli Shay'in Qadeer,' gets a reward equivalent to that of emancipating a slave from the children of Isma‘eel (Ishmael); ten good deeds will be written for him; ten sins will be wiped out from him; he will be raised ten degrees, and he will be protected from the devil until the evening; and if he says the same thing in the evening, he gets the same reward (as mentioned) until the morning.” [Abu Dawood - Al-Albaani graded it Saheeh (sound)]
Another hadeeth reads, “Whoever says 'La Ilaaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Shareeka Lah, Lahul Mulk Wa Lahul Hamd Wa huwa 'ala Kulli Shay'in Qadeer,' after the Fajr prayer ten times, Allah will write for him ten good deeds, and He will wipe out from him ten sins, and He will raise him ten degrees, and he gets the reward equivalent to that of emancipating two slaves from the children of Isma‘eel; and if he says it in the evening, he gets the same reward and it will be a protection for him from the devil until the morning.” [Al-Khateeb]
Al-Albaani classified it as Saheeh in As-Silsilah As-Saheehah.
One should say this Thikr before moving from his place, as a hadeeth reads:
“Whoever says before moving from his place and before folding his legs from the Fajr prayer and the Maghrib prayer 'La Ilaaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Shareeka Lah, Lahul Mulk Wa Lahul Hamd Yuhyi wa Yumeet, Wa huwa 'ala Kulli Shay'in Qadeer,' ten times, then Allah will write for him for each one ten good deeds, and He will wipe out from him ten sins; he will upgrade him ten degrees (in reward), and he (the person who says it) will be safeguarded from all kinds of harm and will be guarded against the accursed devil; and no sin can overtake him on that day (and nullify his good deeds) except Shirk (associating partners in worship with Allah); and he will be the best of the people in deeds, except for a man who said (the above Thikr) more than he did.” [Ahmad]
Al-Haythami and Al-Munthiri said, “The narrators of this hadeeth are narrators who meet the criteria of an authentic hadeeth, with the exception of Shahr ibn Hawshab. Al-Albaani said, “It is Hasan (good), being supported by other ahaadeeth.”
Ibn As-Sunni, Al-Munthiri, and Al-Haythami dedicated a chapter in their writings about saying this Thikr after the prayer, and they mentioned this hadeeth in this regard.
The apparent meaning of the hadeeth that states saying the above Thikr (La Ilaaha illa Allah...) one hundred times is that one gets the virtue (the reward) if he says it at any time of the day, but it is more appropriate to say it at the beginning of the day. An-Nawawi said in his commentary on the hadeeth of the Prophet :
“‘Whoever says a hundred times in a day, 'La Ilaaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Shareeka Lah, Lahul Mulk Wa Lahul Hamd Wa huwa 'ala Kulli Shay'in Qadeer,' will have a reward equivalent to that of emancipating ten slaves, a hundred good deeds will be recorded to his credit, a hundred of his sins will be wiped out from his record of bad deeds, and he will be safeguarded against the devil on that day till the evening; and no one will exceed him (in the reward that he attained) except for someone who has recited these words more often than he did’: The apparent meaning of the hadeeth is that one gets the reward mentioned in this hadeeth if he says this Thikr one hundred times, whether he recited it in succession or not in succession at different times, or some of it at the beginning of the day and some of it towards the end of the day, but it is better if he says it in succession at the beginning of the day so that it will be a protection for him during the entire day.”
Allah knows best.
