Balance required between Da‘wah and marital life
Fatwa No: 40382

Question

I am the wife of a person who calls people to Allaah, and who is always quite occupied and has no time for me. He talks to a lot of women who ask him for Fatwa and I do not know what to do. Please advise.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

First and foremost, the husband must fulfill his wife’s material and spiritual needs, meaning he has to satisfy her need for provision, sexual intercourse, love and attention.

We advise the brother you are talking about to try and strike a balance between fulfilling people’s rights, by calling them to right path and clarifying the matters of religion to them on one hand, and fulfilling his family’s rights on the other hand; being a husband and a father. Allaah The Almighty has ordered us to achieve balance as we seek to fulfill the rights we owe to ourselves and to others, because if this balance is disturbed, one’s marital life may be destroyed.

We also advise our brother not to go to excessively talk  to women, even in matters related to religion, because this would most likely lead to unpleasant consequences. This is obviously annoys his wife and such behavior will fill her heart with jealousy. It is his duty to avoid hurting her feelings.

On the other hand, we advise our sister to be patient, to think carefully and not to rush into asking for divorce. She has to appreciate the nature of her husband’s work and know that the task he shoulders includes many responsibilities; hence, he needs all the support he can get.

Thus, we advise our sister to supplicate Allaah The Almighty to guide her husband to the best way to achieve that balance between her rights and the rights of Da‘wah.

Allaah Knows best.
