Carrying out Jinns’ demands is impermissible Fatwa No: 4738
- Fatwa Date:28-10-2010
A woman is possessed by a female Jinni who asks for gold and forbids going to Shaykhs for Ruqyah (healing through religious incantations). Is it permissible to respond to the demands of the Jinni so that it will depart from the woman’s body?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
Jinn’s possession of humans is a known matter and a fact. There are many proofs in this regard. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity.}[Quran 2:275] On the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas a woman came to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and told him that she suffered from epilepsy and asked him to supplicate Allaah The Almighty for her. He told her if she was patient she would be rewarded with Paradise. She chose to be patient. There are also many other proofs in this regard.
It is impermissible to respond to the demands of a Jinni, such as bringing her gold or anything, because this will increase her control and oppression and her hope of continuing to stay in that person’s body. The family of the possessed woman should take her to a religious scholar who specializes in Sharee'ah-approved Ruqyahs, not magic and sorcery. If that specialist is a male, there must be a Mahram (non-marriageable male guardian) attending and the woman’s ‘Awrah (private parts) must be covered. Expelling Jinn with the Quran is a well-known phenomenon and that is why the Jinni refuses it, as mentioned in the question.
The possessed woman should intensify her worship and obedience with prayer, fasting, supplication, giving charity, and observing the Athkaar (words of remembrance) of morning, evening, sleeping, eating, entering and leaving the house. Remembering Allaah The Almighty is the invincible fort from which Satan flees.
It is also permissible to recite some Quranic verses, such as the verse of Al-Kursi, Soorat Al-Falaq and Soorat An-Naas (Chapters 113 and 114), over water, then let the woman drink it or wash the spots of pain on her body with it.
And Allaah Knows best.
