I want to change name of my daughter; she is now 3 yrs old. I think i gave her a wrong name; now I want to change it. please tell me is it permissable in islam. I repent for having kept a wrong name. I really do. please reply/confirm.

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

One's name could be changed any time, especially if the name is bad, or contradicts the Islamic creed and teachings. The Prophet Muhammad has changed many bad names to good ones. He changed the name Barrah to Maymoonah, Harb to Sahl, and ‘Aassiyah to Jameelah.

We ask Almighty Allah to bless you and grant you the goodness of your daughter.
