Changing from work haram to halal Fatwa No: 82665
- Fatwa Date:1-3-2001
Dear Brethren,As Salaamu AlaikumI have been a high profile artist/illustrator in Dubai for the past 10 years or so. I have become very well known for my work and was earning good money for it. I had of late started contemplating seriously whether what I do (which includes drawing of human and animal characters) was Haram. Before this I used to think of it as something which might be disliked, but not Haram, and used to be relaxed about it. After realizing it is Haram, I have made up my mind to leave what I am doing. I have given a few months as a grace period where I can wrap up my commitments and stop it all together afterwards (I have been told this is permissible). No sooner I have decided to take this action, Allah has gifted me with new work which does not involve the human/animal figure in any way. This is just a little contribution from my side for my Muslim brothers & sisters who have decided to leave their work because of it being Haram. I advise you to go ahead with the good. Allah will *definitely* provide you with better sustenance from places which you and I cannot even dream of.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Dear Brother, indeed Allah has blessed you by leading you from that which is Haram to that which is Halal.
We thank you for your good letter testifying to Allah's Mercy and Graciousness to you and the Truthfulness of His Promise to provide for those who strive to obey Him.
May Allah continue to bless you and us and make us good examples for propagating His Truth.
Your Brothers in-Islam.
