Choosing a vocation for Allah's sake Fatwa No: 83094
- Fatwa Date:20-7-2001
I just finished a university degree in economics (4 years) here in Canada. I have been thinking recently of going into the Islamic Univ. Medinah, S.A. Do you recommend this to me from an Islamic point of view? Is it worth it to spend another 4 years to get another degree in Sharia?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
No doubt, you need to study the Islamic rules concerning the matters of transaction, business, etc., as to be able to distinguish between what is conform with Sharia and what contradicts it. By doing so you may bring recent developments in this field to the knowledge of Muslims. On the other hand , if you can further your studies in the Islamic University of Madinah, this will be a great achievement for you as there are many benefits in studying there, such as learning from eminent scholars who are specialists in their fields. In addition, you may join groups of students in the mosque of the Prophet where many known authentic scholars deliver lectures every day in various fields of Islamic Sharia. You may also find there a large library containing millions of references on Islam. When you live there you will have the ability to perform Umrah and Hajj frequently. There are many more benefits. If it is possible to study there then, Al-Hamdu Lillah; if it is not, try to continue your Islamic studies through any other Islamic University, at least through American open University. May Allah Bless you and Help you achieve your good goals.
Allah knows best.
