Sunni Muslim married girl from Baralwi sect
Fatwa No: 84792

Question

I am a Sunni Muslim (Salafi/Ahl-Hadith). There is a serious problem in my family concerning my marriage. I married a Baralwi girl but the problem is that a Baralwi Alim gave a Fatwa that this marriage is not correct. He claims that only one group will enter the Paradise among 73 groups, that is the Baralwi group. So, anyone from other groups cannot marry a girl belongs to them.Know that girl believes in the Qur'an and Hadith. Please answer me as soon as possible.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Baralwi sect is a radical Sufi group. Members of this sect believe in a set of irreligious beliefs, such a believing that the Messenger knows the unseen and can act freely in the universe. They also believe that Shaykh ‘Abdul Qadir al-Jilani has the same power.

Baralwi sect urges its followers to seek help from Prophets and the righteous people, and even considers those who do not do that as disbelievers.

Members of this sect believe that the Messenger is present and can see actions of people in every place and time. This, in fact, is a part of their belief of pantheism, which includes that the Divine Light is incarnated in the human being.

This sect considers those who disagree with it as disbelievers. Thus, Baralwi sect considers Diabondi and Nadawi, leaders of education and reform, Muhammad Iqbal, Zia al-Haq and Ibn Taymiyyah as disbelievers.

Therefore, we state that it is forbidden to help one of this group get married to any Muslim girl unless he declares that he is exempt from such a sect.

Also, it is forbidden to marry a female who believes in the beliefs of this deviant group unless she declares that she is exempt from them. Here, it is not strange to find that the Baralwi scholar gives a Fatwa that your marriage is invalid, since this Fatwa is based on their belief that those who are not from them are disbelievers.

Briefly, if your wife does not believe in their beliefs, then your marriage is sound and valid, i.e. do not pay any attention to their Fatwa. But, if your wife believes in something of their belief, you have to show her the truth, seeking help of some Sunni scholars. If she accepts, then this is good and praise be to Allah, otherwise you have to divorce her.

As for sects in the Hadeeth you mentioned, they contradict the fundamental basics of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa'ah creed, such as al-Khawarej, al-Mu'tazila and al-Murjiah. The Baralwi, is not among these sects, it has explicit disbelief, and is among the losers who conflict with Muslims in general.

Here, we advise you to read the book of Baralwi sect by Ihsan Ilahi Zaheer and 'al-Mauso'ah al-Muyassarah Fil Mazahib wal adian.
