Using words in daily practice that are attributes of Allah Fatwa No: 85712
- Fatwa Date:1-4-2003
Is this right to use word 'create' or 'creator' in our daily life as the word is among the Names of Allah (Al-Khaliq). In computer science different languages are used and this word is used in these languages, e.g. 'create table' is a command in a language to generate a table. Also guide me which words can be used in our daily life which are also among the names of Allah. I am really in a tense situation that either it is a sin or not to use these words, especially Arabic words. In my opinion for human beings word like inventive is suitable. Is this right to call some person Ali alone as in Qur'an it is among the Names of Allah.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Some of the Sublime Names of Allah are peculiar to Him and must not be given to any of His Creatures, such as Al-Khaliq and Al-Quddus.
Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned some Names that must not be given to any other than Allah: Al-Ahad, Al-Samad, Al-Khaliq, Al-Razzagh, Al-Jabbar, Al-Mutakabbir, Al-Awwal, Al-Akhir, Al-Baten, and Allamu Al-Ghuyub.
There are other Names that can be given to both Allah and His creatures such as Ali and Rashid … etc.
The Hanafis said that the reason for the lawfulness to give these names to people is because the meaning of the name changes if given to Allah, The Almighty. Some Fuqaha believe that the definite article 'Al' (the) should not be added to any of these Names. Otherwise it becomes peculiar to Allah.
As for using the expression "create a table" etc. it is lawful since it is a linguistic use, which is correct. The word Khalaq has many meanings such as estimation, assessment, arrangement etc.
Allah knows best.
