Prayers and Dhikr to wipe out sins
Fatwa No: 86048

Question

Since sin and committing them is rampant can you send me any prayer or name of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta A'ala) and the number of times required to do that to help erase all my sins by Allah's Mercy. Give evidence of the prayers with links to the Qur'an and the Hadith.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Among the acts that wipe out sins and raise one's status are adhering to prayers in their fixed times and in congregation as well as performing the other obligations of Shariah. Allah Says in the Qudusi Hadith: "And the dearest to Me of all deeds by which My slave can seek My favour is that which I have enjoined upon him. And My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (supererogatory deed) till I love him …" [Reported by Imam Bukhari ]. Among the things that make Allah love someone is to say after each obligatory prayer: "Subhana Allah 33 times, Al Hamdu Lillah 33 times, Allahu Akbar 33 times and finishes the 100 with La Ilaha Illah Allah Wahdahu La Sharika Lahu, Lahu Al Mulku, Wa Lahu Al Hamdu Wa Huwa Aala Kulli Shayeen Qadeer". Muslim reported in his Sahih that: "Whoever does that, his sins are wiped out even if they are similar (in quantity) to the sea foam" . Another thing that also helps having one's sins erased is to make Wudu, walk to the mosque and wait (in the mosque) after performing an obligatory until the time of the following prayer comes and praying it. So, any good deed you perform and any bad deeds you avoid get you nearer to Allah. Allah knows best.
