Can a Muslim man model? Fatwa No: 86308
- Fatwa Date:21-9-2003
Can a Muslim man model or not? I say no because after all he's a man, and modeling is more of a female job. But I can't give any proof because I lack knowledge. Can you help me please?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. There is no harm for a man to work in modeling lawful dresses provided they meet some conditions. The dresses should be large and thick enough to screen the body. They should be free from silk, gold or silver. In addition, the dresses should not be similar to dresses of women and the modeling place should be free from intermixing of men and alien women. If one fulfills all the above conditions then it is permitted for him to wear such dresses as to expose them. However, we remind you that a Muslim is always recommended to earn his livelihood through good and respectful means and professions. So, it is better to give up the professions that are not recommended though permissible, such as the matter that is being enquired here. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: O people! Fear Allah, and adapt good means in seeking (livelihood), no one will die till he completes his livelihood, even if it comes slow to him . [ Ibn Majah , Sheikh al-Albani graded it as sound]. Allah knows best.
