Removing hairs from the body Fatwa No: 87157
- Fatwa Date:25-2-2004
The hairs of which body parts are essential to remove?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
What we know as being a Sunnah to remove or to shave is the pubic hair around the private parts, the moustache hair and the hair at the armpit.
And there is hair that is forbidden to shave which is the beard.
It is reported in al-Bukhari, Muslim and Sunan that Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: “The Fitra – the natural disposition of the person – is five things: Circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, removing the hair of the armpit, cutting nails and trimming moustaches”.
What is meant by Fitra here is that if these things are done, then the person who does them is characterized by the characteristics upon which Allah has created His slaves on in their natural disposition.
He, The Exalted, urged them to do those things and informed them that it is good to do them so that they will be in a complete and best form.
Allah knows best.
