His boss mocks Muslims and Islam Fatwa No: 87257
- Fatwa Date:13-3-2004
In my country after the September 11th incident my boss, a non-Muslim, always asks about our pure religion and disgraces it. He likes to ask why are Muslims terrorists, fanatics and extremists. Due to this whenever I go for my daily prayers I do not ask his permission, but I fulfill my duties, and do not neglect my job. Am I doing what is correct? I have a strong feeling that he may not allow me time to pray. Please advise.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
You do not need permission to go to prayer as you are answering the Call of Allah Who orders you to pray. In fact, the time of prayer is a right of Allah which is excepted from the time of hiring even if this is not stipulated in the contract and even if the employer objects to it.
We advise you, dear brother, to look for another job where you can apply your religious duties and show your rites without being harassed, especially since your employer insults Islam and Muslims. In this case, you have two options either to reply or to remain silent. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {And when you (Muhammad SAW) see those who engage in a false conversation about Our Verses (of the Qur'ân) by mocking at them, stay away from them till they turn to another topic. And if Shaitân (Satan) causes you to forget, then after the remembrance sit not in the company of those people who are the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.).}[6:68].
We ask Allah to give you a way out of the situation where you are.
Allah knows best.
