Regrets having married a non-Muslim woman although he divorced her later Fatwa No: 89165
- Fatwa Date:6-1-2005
I am 50-years-old, married and while working away from home and family in foreign country for some 6 months I came under different pressures and temptations to sleep with one lady from that country. I asked her to agree to marry me before sleeping together and she did accept. After some time I was able to take her to the Masjid (Mosque) and make formal Muslim marriage contract. After few months I found she is not straight person and may be doing something against Muslim marriage. She is not Muslim at any time. I have divorced her and gave her some money to help her for few months and I cut all connections with her since then and left even that place and working somewhere else now. Please do not ignore my message...I need your Fatwa and help to be back to real Eemaan. I have made Hajj years ago and I feel that I have violated all rules of correct marriage and Islamic relations. But Wallahi I need someone who knows the real Islam to tell me the required thing to clear me from big or the biggest sin in this Dunia. Please accept my apology for sending such question or problem that knows one knows about except Allaah.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is his slave and messenger as well as that of his family and all his companions.
No doubt, adultery is a major great sin which Allaah does not like. You have to sincerely repent to Allaah, because Allaah loves those who repent and He accepts their repentance. To know how to repent, please read Fataawa: 81467 and 84677.
Marriage to other than a chaste Christian or Jewish woman is forbidden as we have mentioned in Fataawa: 82067 and 84159.
We also advise you not to mix with opposite sex, and to befriend only good and pious people as this will help you remain steadfast. For more details, please read the Fataawa: 85277 and 85477.
Allaah knows best.
