Question

[1] Are rewarded for following the simple Sunnah of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, e.g. putting on shoes from the right side etc. [2] Are we rewarded for being in a state of Wudu even outside the mosque or anytime you stay with Wudu after Salah.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

It is expected that a Muslim will get a reward for following the Sunnah, whether that is the Sunnah of wearing shoes by starting with the right foot, or always being in a state of ritual purity or whatever. Allaah says (which means): {So whoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant) shall see it.}[99:7]. Allaah further says (which means): {But he who works deeds of righteousness, and has faith, will have no fear of harm nor of any curtailment (of what is his due).}[20:112]. Allaah also says (which means): {So whoever does righteous deeds while he is a believer, his effort will not be rejected. Verily, We record it for him in his Book of deeds.}[21:94]. Thus, a Muslim is rewarded for every good deed that he performs if he intends getting near to Allaah by doing it.

Finally, it should be noted that one should not say 'these are small Sunnah', because this could lead to ignoring or neglecting some of it on the basis that they are small. Indeed, every Sunnah is of great importance and significance. The Prophet said regarding preserving ablution: "It is only a true believer who is keen on maintaining the state of ablution."

Allaah knows best.
