Using a credit card without an interest transaction Fatwa No: 90131
- Fatwa Date:8-6-2005
I have a credit card and most of the time uses it for convenience and to collect air miles points. I always pay the outstanding balance in full before the due date. Therefore I have never paid any interest. Is this Halaal or Haraam?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Credit cards issued by banks which deal with usury and interest contain forbidden terms and conditions. Therefore, it is forbidden to get these cards or benefit from the points that one gets with such cards even if the card holder does not delay repaying the money in order to avoid any interest, because this is stipulated as a condition in the contract.
Allaah Knows best.
