Magicians may do supernatural things Fatwa No: 91545
- Fatwa Date:27-3-2006
Can a magician move with his body from one country to another, as we hear, i.e. he flies on a palm leaf?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Ibn Taymiyyah said: 'We know many such examples nowadays and who lived in the past centuries; a person who would now be in Damascus and the devil would transport him from the mountain of As-Saalihiyyah to a village around Damascus, he would fly in the air to the window of a house where there are people who could see him, yet he would be one of the most dissolute people.'
He further added: 'Among those (magicians) there are those whose devils bring to them food, fruits and sweets, and other things which do not exist in that place. Among whom are also those whom the Jinn would fly them to Makkah, Al-Quds mosque in Jerusalem, or to other mosques and other places.'
To conclude, it is not permissible to believe that whoever does a supernatural thing like the above ones, is loved by Allaah, rather such things could happen to non-Muslims, polytheists and innovators, so one should be careful.
Allaah Knows best.
