Pretending to be a non-Muslim in order to marry Fatwa No: 91781
- Fatwa Date:3-4-2006
Do you have any Fataawa which allow me to pretend to be a non-Muslim with the family of a Christian girl whom I want to marry, and then publicly announce this marriage for the people of my religion, according to the religion and the Sunnah of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam. Dou you have any Fatwa in this regard?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
It is forbidden for a Muslim to pretend to be a non-Muslim except in a case of a necessity. Allaah Says (what means): {Whoever disbelieves in [i.e. denies] Allaah after his belief, except for one who is forced [to renounce his religion] while his heart is secure in faith. But those who [willingly] open their hearts to disbelief, upon them is wrath from Allaah, and for them is a great punishment.}[Quran 16:106]. Your desire to marry this woman in not a necessity which allows you to pretend to be a disbeliever because whoever deliberately says a word of disbelief or does an act of disbelief becomes a disbeliever [out of the fold of Islam], even if he does it in order to get money or to achieve a worldly benefit as Allaah Says (what means): {That is because they preferred the worldly life over the Hereafter and that Allaah does not guide the disbelieving people.}[Quran 16: 106]
Allaah Knows best.
