Weak points in Christianity Fatwa No: 10326
- Fatwa Date:30-9-2010
I am a Syrian student living in Poland, and sometimes I engage in discussions with Christians about the correct religion: Islam or Christianity.
What are the main weak points in Christianity? What is the best method to debate with these people?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
We ask Allaah The Almighty to protect you in that foreign country and to help you propagate Islam there.
You should not debate with disbelievers unless you are armed with Sharee‘ah knowledge that will enable you to convince them and refute their allegations. Otherwise, any discussions with them might leave them dominant and weaken your stance.
Distorted Christianity has no sound proof to establish its principles, let alone to refute its antagonists. Christianity is full of weak points. It is as Allaah The Almighty describes in the verse (which means): {Darknesses, some of them upon others. When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it. And he to whom Allaah has not granted light - for him there is no light.}[Quran 24:40]
The following are several points that a debater may use in his arguments:
1- None of the chain of narrators of the present gospels can be traced back to the gospel that was revealed to ‘Eesaa (Jesus) . All of the gospels were written after ‘Eesaa had been raised to heaven. Indeed the gospels are more like biographies that recount the life of ‘Eesaa . They mention that he preached the gospel, but where is the revealed gospel that they mention? Researchers of the four gospels know for sure that they cannot be authentically traced back to their claimed authors.
2- The gospels include obvious contradictions and errors that stress their origin as being from other than Allaah, who Says (what means): {If it [the Quran] had been from [any] other than Allaah , they would have found within it much contradiction.}[Quran 4:82]
The eminent scholar Rahmat Allaah Al-Hindi discovered 125 contradictory points in the Bible, 110 preposterous errors, 45 examples of verbal corruption through additions and 20 examples of verbal corruption through deletions. We mentioned examples of these in Fatwa 2105. This nullifies Christians’ claim of the gospels having been written based on revelation. If they really were from Allaah, they would have been void of contradictions.
3- Their so-called Holy Book ascribes shameful grave sins to the noble Prophets and Messengers of Allaah such as Loot (Lot), Nooh (Noah), and Daawood (David), may Allaah exalt their mention.
4- The Gospel brings good tidings of the advent of the Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Such tidings are still there despite distortions.
5- The Trinity and crucifixion, despite being at the core of Christianity, are dealt with confusedly.
6- The study of the history of the Christian Councils shows the way they contradicted each other, to the extent that they exchanged accusations of disbelief. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Every time a nation enters, it will curse its sister.}[Quran 7:38]
Reflecting on the history of such councils shows that choosing the four gospels apart from the other testimonies, affirming the divinity and son-hood of ‘Eesaa and the divinity of the Holy Spirit, has no foundation except through these councils, where there was not even consideration of the majority’s opinion taken into account. The final decisions were made by those who were in harmony with the Romans, their idolatry and deviance. Prohibition and punishment was the fate of those who adhered to monotheism.
Our advice to anyone who wants to engage in such debates is to read some useful books in this regard and to browse Internet websites which are concerned with these subjects, such as: Christianity from an Islamic perspective, Guiding perplexed Christians, Only for Christians and so on.
We supplicate to Allaah The Almighty to help and guide you. We would be delighted to communicate with you and answer your subsequent questions through this Fatwa section on this site.
And Allaah Knows best.
