The Sabbatarians - Definition and Beliefs

Question

Who are the Sabbatarians who live in our country (Jordan)? Their holidays and feasts are on Saturday.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is stated in the Encyclopedia of contemporary religions and schools of thought that the Sabbatarians are also called the Seventh-Day Adventists, which is derived from a Latin word which means 'coming'. It is a Christian group whose beliefs focus on the second coming of ‘Eesa (Jesus) may Allaah exalt his mention. It depends on the teachings of William Miller (1782-1849 C.E.). He predicted that the end of the world would be in 1843 C.E.. and then he said 1844 C.E. When his prophecy did not take place, they declared their belief in the return of ‘Eesa may Allaah exalt his mention at an indefinite time after the resurrection of the dead and the beginning of the millennial age.

One of their beliefs is the sacredness of Saturday since the beginning of Friday sunset until sunset on Saturday. They consider Ellen Gold White as an inspired prophet. They also believe in the extinction of the evil people and in other beliefs that contradict Christianity. They have activities and many branches all over the world.

Allaah Knows best.
