Islam does not advocate separation between parents and children

Question

My son & daughter, both are university student in america, observing islam very seriously, don't like to stay their. I told them to finish their study and give permission to go to any muslim country to leave or continue study. Never given any objection in their strict observance of islamic code of life rather always appreciated. But even then suddenly they left us without informing us-in the name of Allah & Islam, not disclosing where they are going, for what reason, even not communicating with us. They are the only son & daughter we have, obviously we are in bed in last 20 days. My question is, it is which islam which takes away their children away from parents (parents are also observing islamic code), who are the people teaching these young boys & girls to leave their family not completing their study & why? Is it realy islamic? Is it a rightful way ? Some groups are doing these activities in North america - destroying many families for ever.......in the name of islam. Please disscus the matter in full - which is right or wrong according to islamic sharia. As a parents, we dont have any right to say our kids to stay with us , complete their study and then they can choose their path after reaching maturity.....
My son left us when he is in final year engineering with very high grade average in last 6semester (10plus GPA out of 12) and same with my daughter

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

In Islam, it is an obligation to be kind and dutiful to one’s parents even if they are non-Muslims, let alone if they are Muslims. Allaah Says (what means): {But if they endeavour to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness.}[Quran 31:15] For more benefit on being kind and dutiful to one’s parents, please refer to Fataawa 87019 and 82254. Therefore, it becomes clear that Islam does not advocate an ideology of separating between parents and children; this is forbidden in Islam. Moreover, we do not know any organization that advocates this, and if it exists, it is misguided. We do not know why they do such a thing.

With regard to your two children, if they deliberately hid from you and did not inform you about where they are, then they are wrong and by doing so, they are considered as having cut ties with their parents, because it is known that such a conduct may grieve them. Therefore, they are obliged to repent to Allaah because cutting ties with parents is a major sin and it has unpleasant consequences in this life and in the Hereafter. For more benefit on cutting ties with parents, please refer to Fataawa 87856 and 85041

Allaah Knows best.
