Storing Goods with Company in Its Storehouse and Then Selling Them Via the Internet Fatwa No: 472573
- Fatwa Date:15-3-2023
Assalamualaikum. The goods i own are in a warehouse that I don't own, it is basically a service provider whom I pay to store and distribute my goods when some one buys them online. I might share my profit with the service provider or pay them according to the deal. As my product is in their possession and they ship it to customers. As for in consideration with me and the distributing company Is above method Shariah compliant? And the transaction between me and customer valid?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
As for your agreement with the company to store your goods in its storehouse and your agreement to ship the goods via the Internet, this is permissible since it is considered rent for a determined fee. Besides, it is also permissible that the company would take a percentage of your profit from selling commodities as a fee, and this is what you pointed out in the question by your saying that the company would share your profits with you. However, before starting the transaction, you and the company should agree upon one of the two ways to get the fee, meaning that you should not leave it open to choose either of them.
As for the transaction between you and the customer, it is permissible since there is nothing to prevent it as you sell commodities that you already own at the time of sale.
Allah knows best.
