One is blameless for not telling parents about the reason for not having children
Fatwa No: 50907

Question

I married a relative of mine two years ago, but we still do not have children. I am suffering from sperm weakness and we are trying to seek a treatment for this secretly. Is it permissible for us to conceal the cause of not having children as well as the problems that we are facing from our parents? Knowing that we try to achieve our goals secretly as the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, commanded. We do not like to afflict our families with sadness and depression, especially since treatment will take time. We have great hope that Allaah will Cure me. Please advise.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It is permissible to conceal the cause of not having children from one's parents, especially if this will grieve them without any benefit subsequent to it.

We advise you, as well as your wife, to intensify your supplication to Allaah and seek His help through prayer.  Allaah The Exalted Says (what means):

·    {And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allaah].} [Quran 2: 45]

·    {And your Lord Says, “Call upon Me; I Will Respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My Worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.} [Quran 40: 60]

Allaah Knows best.
