Muslim Marriage in Czech Republic Fatwa No: 84621
- Fatwa Date:31-7-2002
I would like to have an Islamic opinion on marriage with another woman in European countries [Muslim and non-Muslim]. One Czech Muslim man married two women together in one day without Wali [one is Muslim, one is Christian]. He has given interview about it to the newspaper with non-Islamic photo [he kissed one of his wives and other wife was looking at them]. He made a great problem for our small Muslim community in Czech Republic because there Islam is not officially registered as a world religion. Other question: Can any Muslim man perform the wedding act in such case in non-Muslim countries.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
We have already issued a Fatwa concerning marriage with the women from the People of the Book; to know the rulings, please refer to Fataawa 82067 and 81758.
As for marrying a woman without the consent of her guardian, please refer to Fatwa 83379.
With regard to polygamy, it is permissible, and it is desirable. Allah Says (what means): {…then marry (other) women of your choice, two or three, or four but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one…} [Quran 4: 3]
The ruling of the permissibility of polygamy does not change whether it is in a Muslim country or a non-Muslim country.
Also, there is no harm to marry more than one woman in one day, but always the advantages and disadvantages should be weighed. If marrying in that way causes harm to the Muslim community, then it is better to avoid it after considering the benefits.
Know that our religion strongly emphasizes secrecy of the intimate relations between the husband and wife.
It is not in good character to inform anyone about what happens between a husband and his wife. Therefore, it is beneath noble manners to do such an act (kissing) in public and to have it broadcast by the media.
Allah knows best.
