Married and Has Family without His Parents' Knowledge Fatwa No: 86007
- Fatwa Date:2-7-2003
I am now in our hometown with my parents and they don't know anything about my life abroad, especially my wife and my baby boy - they want me to marry one of our Muslim relatives and they are very sincere for this and I want too, of course to ease the pain of my parents in case they will know it. If I marry a Muslim woman a lot of problems will arise. They may not understand. My wife and I abroad will confront acute problems. What if my parents find out someday? Can you give some details concerning marriages of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam). Did the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) marry a Christian or Jew? Provide some other proof from Hadith and Qur'anic verses to tell them to avoid problems and misunderstanding that might happen in the near future.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
If the marriage contract you established with this Christian woman meets all the necessary conditions of a valid marriage according to the Sharee’ah, then we advice you to inform your parents about that. But you should do that in a kind and wise manner. In fact, what you did is not a sin or something bad that you should hide from others. As for your marrying the second one, you can do that if you will not incur some harm because of it. Otherwise, you know your situation better.
Allah knows best.
