Question

What is missionary work? What are its objectives? What is the position of Islam towards it?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Missionary work is when the Christians call Muslims and other people to follow their abrogated and forged religion. The Muslims are obliged to stop these Christian missionaries and not allow them to establish their organizations and institutions in the Muslim countries, and they should not cooperate with them in any way or in any field at all.

It should be noted that among these Christian missionaries, there are those who come openly, and there are those who take various forms. Some pretend to be orientalists, and claim that they are specialised in studying the Islamic heritage. Sometimes some of them come as doctors, nurses, counsellors, experts, artists, or they may even come as charitable organizations which provide humanitarian aid, and they come under other forms as well. Despite their different forms and names, their objective is one and their intention is one, which is to drive out the Muslims from their religion, and shake and temper with their steadfastness to their belief, taking advantage, while doing so, of the weakness and poverty of the Muslims, and their ignorance about their religion.

Allaah Knows best.
