Repeating Soorah Muzammil a Set Number of Times Fatwa No: 374506
- Fatwa Date:10-4-2018
Assalamualaekum.I have a question regarding Surah Muzzammil or any surah. My parents, especially my mother, always insisted to read Surah Muzzammil 40 times to increase wealth or to get a job opportunity. She also insists on reading Panch-Surah book and read wazeefa's to get benefited. Its known to me that doing such acts are innovation. I just wanted to know the authenticity of doing such acts like reading specifics surah or ayat at specific time will increase wealth.Jazak Allah.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
There is no doubt about the virtue of the blessing of Quran and the virtue of reciting it as much as possible.
The Quran is the word of Allah and the greatest type of Thikr (mention of Allah).
However, allocating a particular Soorah in order to achieve a need, and reciting it a given number of times, is something that requires evidence from the Sharee'ah.
As far as we know, the Sharee’ah did not single out the recitation of a given Soorah for a given number of times in order to get a job.
The scholars stated that allocating some Soorahs of the Quran in order to achieve some needs without evidence is among the innovated matters (in religion) as Dr. Bakr Abu Zayd stated in his book: Bida’ Al-Quraa’ Al-Qadeemah wal-Mu’aasirah.
He said: “Among the (religious) innovations is to allocate the recitation of a verse or a Soorah without evidence at a given time, or given place, or to achieve a need.” [End of quote]
Rather, one should recite the Quran as much as possible and then ask Allah by its virtue, without believing in these matters, which are not substantiated with evidence.
It is proven that the Prophet said: "Recite the Quran and ask Allah by its virtue before some people would come and ask people by its virtue." [Ahmad and classified as sound by Al-Arna’oot]
It is important to mention that it is not permissible to worship Allah with a Thikr (mention of Allah) that is not stipulated in the Sharee'ah.
Indeed, there are many types of legislated mention of Allah in the Sunnah (that are authentic) which a Muslim should be preoccupied with instead of committing himself to saying innovated Athkaar (plural of Thikr).
