Naming son "Raheeb"
Fatwa No: 84703

Question

I have named my son (Raheeb). Can you give my an advise about this name?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Before answering your question, we would like to give you a list of what can make a name forbidden or dislikable in Islam.
1) When the name implies a servitude to someone other than Allah like "slave of the Prophet".
2) When the name has the meaning of one of the Attributes or Names, that is peculiar to Allah such as Al-Rahman "The most benevolent Al-Alim (the All-Knower) Malik Al-Muluk (the king of all kings)".
3) When the name has a bad connotation like Harb (war) Murrah (bitter) Huzn (Sadness), ...
4) When the name is meaningless like Zuzu, Mimi, .....
5) When the name has a connotation of self-conceit or vanity, like The best.
Basing on the above, we do not see any harm in giving your son this name unless the community you live in does like such a name, then we believe that you should respect the community and protect your son from being laughed at or disrespected.
Allah knows best.
