Question

I have some doubts about the Qur'an. Please give me all the evidences to show that it is the word of Allah.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Allah revealed the Qur'an, that it might be the witness over previous scriptures and as the everlasting message. He guarded it against the abuse of mischievous people, the interpolation of the exaggerators and the pretensions of the liars. The Qur'an had been known for the above qualities from the first moment of its revelation till this day, and this shall continue till the end of this world. There are many evidences to prove that the Qur'an is the Word of Allah. Some of these evidences are the following: 1) If it reached us through successive transmission by a large group of people from each generation, whose connivance to lie about it would be practically impossible. There had never been an age in which there was a disagreement on a Surah, a verse or a word. Besides, Allah guarantees the safety of His Book from any alterations. He Says: Verily, We, it is We, Who have Sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur'an) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).[15: 9] He also Says, And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.[6: 115]. The above verses implies that the Qur'an is guarded in its very form in which it was revealed. This fact is confirmed by all those who study the Qur'an, be they Muslims or others. See for example, Maurice Bucaila's book: "The Bible, the Qur'an and Science". 2) The Qur'an strongly challenged the disbelievers that they could never produce the like of a Surah. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {And if you (Arab pagans, Jews, and Christians) are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down (i.e. the Qur'ân) to Our slave (Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention )), then produce a Sûrah (chapter) of the like thereof and call your witnesses (supporters and helpers) besides Allâh, if you are truthful. But if you do it not, and you can never do it, then fear the Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.}[2: 23-24]. The fact that Allah exposed their inability to produce a Surah that would be similar to a Surah of the Qur'an is an indication that the Qur'an is from Him and that it is a sign of His Oneness. This challenge stands till today. And the combination of the man and the Jinn is uncapable of producing the like of the shortest Surah; especially that this Qur'an was revealed among a people known for their excellence in eloquence. Yet the most eloquent ones among them were defeated by the inimitability of the Qur'an. The inability to produce the like of the Qur'an continues till this day in which there are many enemies of Islam who are always keen on destroying it. Were they able to produce the like of a Surah thereof, they would have done so. All this shows that it is beyond mankind's ability to produce the like of the Qur'an. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {Say: "If the mankind and the jinns were together to produce the like of this Qur'ân, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another."}[17: 88]. 3) The complete agreement between Qur'anic references to some natural sciences and the discoveries of modern science, a fact that baffles Western researchers. The Qur'an speaks about subtle scientific topics like embryology, astrology and oceanology, that were not discovered until many centuries after the revelation of the Qur'an, though the man with whom the Qur'an was sent was an unlettered who hailed from an illiterate nation that had no connection with those sciences nor with their records, books or researches. How then could an illiterate man like the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) produce such a comprehensive scientific record, if it had not been revealed to him from Allah, Who is All-Knower, All-Wiser? Allah addressed the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), confirming the inimitability of the Qur'an, {Neither did you (O Muhammad SAW) read any book before it (this Qur'ân), nor did you write any book (whatsoever) with your right hand. In that case, indeed, the followers of falsehood might have doubted. Nay, but they, the clear Ayât [i.e. the description and the qualities of Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention )written like verses in the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] are preserved in the breasts of those who have been given knowledge (from the people of the Scriptures). And none but the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.) deny Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).}[29: 48-49]. Allah also Says: {We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their ownselves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Qur'ân) is the truth….}[41: 53]. Let us give you two examples of the above from the Qur'an itself. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {See you not that Allâh drives the clouds gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a heap of layers, and you see the rain come forth from between them. And He sends down from the sky hail (like) mountains, (or there are in the heaven mountains of hail from where He sends down hail), and strikes therewith whom He will, and averts it from whom He wills. The vivid flash of its (clouds) lightning nearly blinds the sight.}[24: 43]. I ask you in the Name of your Lord, are you not baffled when you read this noble Qur'anic verse that concurs with modern scientific theories on natural phenomena like clouds, rain and lightning? Another example: Allah Says (interpretation of meaning), in Surah Al-Qiyaamah, while explaining and affirming His perfect Omnipotence to repeat the creation of man and resurrect him after death, {Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones? Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers.}[75: 3-4]. Just ponder a little bit over Allah's particular mentioning of putting together the tips of man's finger in this occasion, then listen to this new science of identification that was just discovered in our contemporary times, that established that the most subtle and wonderful thing in the construction of man's body is putting together the tips of his finger. This part is so subtle that each human being has his own distinctive features that are totally different from those of others. It is this discovery that led authorities to decide many cases and incidences with fingerprints. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators. This is not an occasion for discussing the miracles of the Qur'an in detail. 4) The Qur'an contains much news of the unseen, which someone like Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) could never have known. This is a clear indication that this Qur'an could never have emanated from the mind of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), or any other creature. It is therefore, the Word of Allah, Who is the Knower of the Unseen, the Sustainer of all that exists and the Knower of all that is hidden or obvious. With Him above, are the keys to the unseen. None Knows them but He. Among the proofs is that, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) informed his followers of the news of the ancient past, which he could not have seen or understood, much less speak of them. He also informed his followers of the obscure future, which he could not have had knowledge of either by sheer insight or intelligence. All the things that he informed about happened exactly as he had said. History has verified the news of the past of which he spoke, the unseen of the present happened exactly as he informed and nobody can deny that, and the future that he talked about was confirmed and testified to by the events and happenings. As a matter of fact, elaboration of this topic could be written in a whole book. The following incidences will suffice as examples: Had Allah not revealed something in the Qur'an about Abu Lahab that, "He will be burnt in a Fire of blazing flames" Abu Lahab remained a disbeliever, since the verse was revealed - for the rest of his life until he died, though it was possible for him to declare, diplomatically or hypocritically, that he had embraced Islam, to contradict Muhammad 's claim and challenge that, how could he prejudge that he would remain a disbeliever and enter Hell on the Day of Judgement. It is the decisive and the impregnable Divine, Knowledge and Revelation. Allah Said in the Qur'an about Al-Waleed bin Al-Mugheerah , "I will cast him into Hell-Fire". This verse was revealed while Al-Waleed was still alive and he actually died in the state of Kufr as the meaning of verse implies. Does this foretelling of the future not give a clear indication that, this could not come but from Allah in Whose Hand are the keys to guidance and faith, and the keys to the hearts and minds? We hope that, the above explanation will be efficient, Insha Allah. We beseech Allah to open your heart and to make you recognize the truth as the truth and falsehood as falsehood. May He also make it easy for you to follow the truth and keep away from falsehood. For more details, please read Fatwa: 82824. Allah knows best.
