Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Among the most important duties of a woman in this life is to manage her home well, carry out the needs of her husband and nurture goodness and virtue in her children. It is confirmed that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “And a woman is a guardian in her husband’s home and she will be questioned over the people under her guardianship. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Therefore, we advise you to look for a pious husband who would help you in your religion and worldly affairs. Indeed, it is religiously permissible for a woman to look for a pious man and propose marriage to him as we clarified in Fatwa 82471.

In fact, you may seek the help of your Muslim sisters and trustworthy Muslim brothers who run Islamic centres. If Allaah facilitates marriage for you, then you may be relieved of this worry.

As regards mixed studies, they are not permissible except in case of necessity and we have already clarified this in Fataawa 90355 and 87000.

Therefore, if you are in dire need of studying, and you wish to study religious subjects, then you may join this Islamic college and you should endeavour to stay away from boys in addition to being only at the college during the study time. Also, we advise you to opt for distant learning and you may ask about this.

Finally, it should be noted that the father is obliged to spend on his daughter who has no money and who is not married. So, the father is obliged to provide food, drink and clothing as well as pay tax if it is collateral for spending or accommodation.

Allaah Knows best.
