Female working abroad to practice Da’wah

Question

I am a Moroccan girl and I went to France to complete my study. After graduation I joined a French company, which sent me to Morocco in one of its projects. Now, the term of my contract with the Moroccan company expired and I have to return to my work in France, leaving my father and family in Morocco. I performed ‘Umrah (minor pilgrimage) after which Allaah guided me to abide by Islamic teachings and wear the Hijaab. Nobody in the Moroccan company talked about the Hijaab, however I contacted the French company last month to check my potential work and the director knew that I would not take off my Hijaab in France. He tried to allure me with a higher position in the company on the condition that I do not wear my Hijaab. Of course I refused but I am so confused because I decided to return and work with them in order to call my friends in France to Islam.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

We implore Allaah to make you and us firm in his religion and give us success.

A woman is prohibited from travelling without a Mahram, and it is not permissible to stay in a country where she cannot worship Allaah and observe the rituals of her religion openly. Also, it is not permissible to stay in a country where a person fears about his/her religion. In case you need to work, you can look for a job in your own country among your family and brothers without resorting to foreign countries whose people try to insult you by trying to make you abandon your religion, or you can look for a job in any other Muslim country where your speciality may be needed, but you will still have to abide by the Sharee‘ah rules.

Undoubtedly, the efforts of Da’wah is more effective and more efficient in one’s own country among one’s own people. Therefore, you can call to Allaah in your country and try to enlighten the minds of the girls who are lost amid the mazes of corruption and absence of religion. This is your duty and the duty of every Muslim. Allaah Says (what means): {And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allaah and does righteousness and says, "Indeed, I am of the Muslims."}[Quran 41:34]

Allaah Knows best.
