Question
What is the ruling on spreading Arabic newspapers to use as a tablecloth?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
It is not permissible to spread Arabic newspapers in order to place leftover food on them because Arabic newspapers usually contain the Name of Allaah The Almighty, Quranic verses and Prophetic Hadeeths. Therefore, using them as a tablecloth where leftover food is put is an act of belittling them as they are then thrown away.
The words of Allaah The Almighty and His Messenger 
must be given their due respect and kept in the highest and purest places.
