Question
Is it kufur to touch the quran without wudu because of laziness or is it a sin, note without haveing intention to disrespect quran
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Touching the Mus-haf without Wudhoo’ out of laziness is not Kufr (disbelief). The majority of the scholars held that it is forbidden to touch the Mus-haf without Wudhoo’. The Encyclopedia of Fiqh reads,
“The jurists held different opinions regarding the obligation of performing Wudhoo’ before touching the Mus-haf. The majority of the jurists held that Wudhoo’ is obligatory for touching the Mus-haf because Allaah The Exalted says (what means): {None touch it except the purified.} [Quran 56:79]”
If one deliberately touches the Mus-haf without Wudhoo’, then he is sinful for it. However, we do not know of any scholar who declares doing so to be Kufr. In fact, some scholars even held that it is permissible to touch the Mus-haf without Wudhoo’ for the person in a state of minor impurity (that only requires Wudhoo’, not Ghusl). This opinion is not the one adopted on Islamweb. We only mention it for the sake of ruling out that this is Kufr, as the questioner fears.
Finally, we advise you to beware of the doubts and misconceptions related to Takfeer (declaring a Muslim individual or group non-Muslim), as they could lead to the undesirable consequences of satanic whisperings and evil thoughts.
