Question
Salam alaikum,is it allowed for a woman to wear a jacket above the khimar. Some say you cannot, because it shows the form of the shoulders.Is it allowed to wear it, if you let the jacket open and do not close it, so that the jacket will be more loose on the body?May Allah reward you
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
The proper Islamic Hijab has certain conditions and requirements to be met regardless of its kind. Those conditions and requirements have been previously highlighted in Fatwa 83702.
If this jacket is loose fitting, and does not define the shape of the body parts, and does not resemble clothing which is peculiar to men, then there is no harm in wearing it. If it violates any of those requirements, then it is not permissible to wear it.
