Assalaamu alaykum. Is it true that ‘Amr ibn Al-‘Aas, may Allaah be pleased with him, was 11 or 12 when he had his son ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Amr ibn Al-‘Aas, may Allah be pleased with him?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
‘Amr ibn Al-‘Aas, may Allah be pleased with him, was eleven or thirteen years old when his son ‘Abdullah was born. Ibn Hibbaan wrote in the biography of ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn Al-‘Aas, may Allah be pleased with them, “His full name is ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn Al-‘Aas ibn Waa'il ibn Haashim ibn Sa‘eed ibn Sahm ibn ‘Amr ibn Husays ibn Ka‘b ibn Lu'ayy ibn Ghaalib. His nickname was Abu Muhammad or Abu Nasr. His father was thirteen years older than him and he embraced Islam before his father.” [Ath-Thiqaat]
Ibn Hajar wrote pertaining to the biography of ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn Al-‘Aas, “The Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said about him, 'How excellent a household it is; ‘Abdullah, the father of ‘Abdullah, and the mother of ‘Abdullah!' It is said that his name was originally Al-‘Aas and that when he embraced Islam, he was named ‘Abdullah. There was only a difference of eleven years between him and his father. ‘Abdullah embraced Islam before his father. He was devoted to worship and was endowed with profound knowledge.” [Tahtheeb At-Tahtheeb]
Imaam Ath-Thahabi wrote, “His father was about eleven years older than him.” [Siyar A‘laam An-Nubalaa']
