Self-inflicted evil eye possible

Question

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu, Shaykh. Is it possible that a person affects themselves with their own eye, causing harm through the evil eye of oneself over oneself? I want to know as I have felt that at times I think about a certain thing in me, like a good thing, praise be to Allaah, and then I see some problem with that thing itself. I have noticed this more than once. Hence, I want to know if there is any evidence for this in Islam or whether it is just the devil whispering. May Allaah reward you, Shaykh.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

That a person may envy himself or affect himself with the evil eye is possible; Ibn al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him said, “A man may affect himself with the evil eye.

The treatment for this is to supplicate Allah to bless everything he likes in himself, or his wealth, or anything else.

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said, “If anyone of you sees in himself, or his wealth, or his brother what he likes, then let him supplicate Allah to bless it for him as the evil eye is true.” [Ibn as-Sunni in Aa'maal Al-Yawm wal-Laylah - Al-Albaani graded it saheeh (sound)]

Allah knows best.
