Touching religious books without Wudhoo’

Question

What is the Sharee‘ah ruling on touching the religious books written in languages other than Arabic, like English, Urdu, and Persian, when one is not in a state of Wudhoo’? Are they like Arabic religious books in this respect?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Whether one is in a state of Wudhoo’ or not, he/she is permitted to touch the religious books, regardless if they are in Arabic or any other language. This is applicable unless the Quranic quotations in these books are more than others. Nevertheless, it is better that one touches these books when he is in a state of Wudhoo’ out of exalting the mention of Allaah in these books.

Allaah Knows best.
