The obligation to forbid evil at work

Question

I am a doctor who always comments on the violations of Sharee‘ah that the nurses commit. Am I to be held sinful for this? Am I permitted by Sharee‘ah to do this?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

What you are doing, dear brother, is enjoining good and forbidding evil, which is obligatory for every person who is able to do this. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered the one who sees an evil to change it physically with his hand if he was able to do so. If he could not, he should change it by his tongue (by advising and/or condemning), and finally by (detesting it with) his heart, and he, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, informed that this is the weakest level of faith. [Muslim]

You will be rewarded, Allaah willing, for doing this action. However, you should be gentle and wise in giving advice, because gentleness beautifies and makes everything pleasant and appealing while harshness makes everything worse.

You may also offer these nurses cassettes and books which warn against such violations.

Allaah Knows best.
