Has Whispers Regarding Smiling to a Non-Muslim Woman

Question

Assalamu alaikum. I am single and suffer from depression. A non muslim woman smiled at me and I smiled back a few times at my work and I regret it. I liked her. I found her on facebook and saw that she shared a video which was about a muslim becoming a christian. I didnt know that she was religious. I was shocked when I saw this and even cried. Also she called me Yaya sometimes so maybe its seen as mocking a muslim name? Now obviously I cant like her anymore but there is still a little liking for her and I am worrying if this makes me a kafir?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

You should repel these whispers and stop giving in to them.

This feeling does not make you a Kaafir (disbeliever); a person is not held accountable for liking a non-Muslim for his stature (looks, shape), or his qualities. However, you have to hate her for her disbelief, and there no doubt that you definitely hate her for this.

Therefore, repel these whispers and do not pay attention to them.

You should consult a psychiatrist to treat your condition.

Allah knows best.
