When the Udh-hiyah (sacrificial animal for 'Eed) is sent outside the country where its provider lives, is it regarded as an Udh-hiyah or just as a kind of charity? Is it a must to slaughter it in the same country where we live?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
It is better for the Muslim to offer the Udh-hiyah in the country where he lives and to slaughter it by himself. This is to comply with the tradition of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, concerning this matter. Anas said, "The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, slaughtered two horned rams, black and white in color. He slaughtered them with his own hands and said, 'Bismillah wAllaahu Akbar,' (In the Name of Allaah; Allaah is the Greatest) and put his foot on the sides of their necks." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
But if there is an overweighting interest in sending an Udh-hiyah to another country, then it is valid and acceptable as an Udh-hiyah as long as he intended it to be as such.
Allaah Knows best.
