Paying to the Imam for Taraweeh Prayer

Question

Assalaamu 'alaykumI asked a boy to lead me and a few other people in Taraweeh prayer in my building. As a result, he did not go to his village this Ramadaan where he could have earned some money for leading people in Taraweeh prayer over there. He did not tell me anything about giving him money and I did not tell him either that I won't be giving him any money. Do I have to pay him if he demands money later?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If there was no formal or customary contract between you and him, then you do not have to give him any money, but it is better for you to do good to him as he did good for you [one good turn deserves another].

Allah knows best.
